Dromedary camels were found to be the natural host of MERS coronavirus in Africa and Middle-East. The situation in Asia remains unclear. Blood specimens were collected from 95 Bactrian and 455 dromedary camels in two southern provinces of Kazakhstan in February 2015. All the sera were sero-negative for MERS coronavirus indicating a lack of infection.
